CSV Formatter and Validator

Auto-detects the delimiter, re-quotes to RFC 4180 or aligns columns for reading, and reports rows whose field count does not match the header.

Detected delimiter: semicolon. 5 row(s), 4 column(s). 2 ragged row(s): line 4 has 3 field(s), expected 4; line 5 has 5 field(s), expected 4

CSV Formatter and Validator — Free Online Tool

Formats and validates delimited data by auto-detecting the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe), re-quoting fields per RFC 4180, optionally aligning columns into a readable fixed-width view, and flagging ragged rows that have more or fewer fields than the header, useful for debugging exports before a database import fails halfway through.

Frequently asked questions

How does delimiter auto-detection work?

Each candidate (comma, semicolon, tab, pipe) is trial-parsed over the first rows, and the one producing the most consistent field count wins. That beats counting characters, which a comma inside quoted text would skew.

What is a ragged row?

A row whose field count differs from the header — the single most common reason a database import fails partway through. Usually an unescaped delimiter inside a value or a missing closing quote a few lines earlier.

What is the difference between the two modes?

Normalize re-quotes everything per RFC 4180 and outputs a comma-delimited file a database or spreadsheet will accept. Align pads the columns into a fixed-width table that is only for reading — do not feed it back to an importer.
